Biblical Counseling

Biblical counseling is a personal discipleship ministry of God’s people to others under the oversight of God’s church, dependent upon the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word through the work of the Holy Spirit. Biblical counseling seeks to reorient disordered desires, affections, and behaviors in a God-designed direction, seeking to restore true worship of God and right fellowship with others.

This is accomplished by speaking the truth in love, applying Scripture to the need of the moment, comforting the suffering, and calling for repentance of sin. The result of Biblical counseling is greater growth and maturity as God’s people learn to abide in Jesus Christ.

There is Hope

We understand that there are times in life that can be very challenging and hope may seem very dim. We may cry out, “Is there any hope? Can God help me?” Whether you are struggling with interpersonal relationships, marriage, parenting, sexual sin, anger, depression, or other emotional issues, God, through His Word, does provide answers. Our counselors desire to walk alongside you in your struggles with wisdom, kindness, and compassion while bringing the Word of God to bear on your situation. We believe that, through scripture, God has given us all we need to know Him and to live in a way that is pleasing to Him (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:3). All our difficulties may not vanish, however, when a person willingly submits to God’s instructions (God’s Word) and clings to His promises there is hope and help.  We believe that God will use your trials, for your good, when you respond with a biblical perspective (Romans 8:28-29) and, that in His sovereignty, He is refining you in the process of your trial (James 1:2-3, James 1:12, 1 Peter 1:7, Isaiah 48:10).

What to Expect

After you have been assigned to a counselor, you will schedule a time to meet and begin the process of growing and changing. Most sessions take between 1 to 1.5 hours. Here’s what you can expect during that time:

Care and Privacy

Our counselors will care for you and treat you with respect. Everything will be held in strict confidence except where, in the counselor’s judgment, that there are Biblical requirements to involve others.

A Learner’s Attitude

We ask that you be open to learning and willing to invest time and energy to apply God’s Word to your life. The most common response of our hearts is to change other people and circumstances, but we always need to start with ourselves first.

Encouragement toward Christlikeness

Our counselors will encourage you in your successes and exhort you to think and behave in a way to pleases Jesus Christ.

Weekly Homework

We will assign you homework to take home between your weekly counseling sessions. The assignments are meant to provide opportunities to grow in knowledge and change habits that the Lord will use over time to transform your life.

Give the Process Time

This process will take some time as the counselor gets to know you, some of your history and patterns in your life, and then for you to learn new truths and put God’s promises into your daily life. In most cases, we ask individuals to commit to regular counseling appointments for a period of 3 to 4 months.
