The King’s Children Family Theatre Ministry is a new theatre ministry based right here at Southwest! For the young and the young at heart, we are calling all lovers of theatre ages 9 to 99 to join us this Christmas on and off the stage! We will be producing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.
The Christmas Session looks different than our regular semester-based class and performance time. First of all, it’s FREE to participate, and parent volunteer requirements are reduced. Secondly, there are only SIX weeks of rehearsals (this is half the time). Thirdly, the structure of our rehearsals will differ in the following ways: we will be in the Worship Center for the full 6 weeks, working blocking right alongside script work. This is challenging, but the students proved in 2022 that it is possible. Also while we may have the opportunity to have an improv room running during rehearsals, it is not a guarantee. Students may be in the Worship Center even on evenings their scene doesn’t get run. Lastly, auditions will need to be recorded and submitted by October 26. The Cast List will be posted and scripts distributed at Southwest Community Church on Sunday, October 29.
What hasn’t changed? Each rehearsal will open with prayer and a review of our rules and expectations. Each week we will share dinner together (please plan to pack a dinner for your child) and share a devotional together that encourages us to learn from the art of acting as well as themes from the play.
Rehearsals will be Thursday evenings from 4 to 8 p.m. for 6 weeks starting November 2 and ending with our performance December 15 (No rehearsal the week of Thanksgiving). Contact Carey Christian with any questions, whatisgiven@gmail.com.
Space is limited. Registration opens September 7. There is no cost, but 6 hours of parent volunteer time will be required. You will receive a catalog of possible volunteer needs once registered. A contract covering expectations will be signed by parents and registered children on our first evening together. Register by October 19 to secure your spot and be able to submit an audition “tape” on time!
